FSF – the flag
The debate surrounding Fjord1's decision to retire the FSF flag for good is raging both online and in local newspapers.
The flag is as old as the shipping company (from 1858 Nordre Bergenhus Amts Damskibe, from 1919 Fylkesbaatane i Sogn og Fjordane and now Fjord1 Fylkesbaatane) and is the oldest flag used by a shipping company in Norway. Now it is almost the end!
Opinions are of course divided on whether this is good branding or not, and we choose not to take part in this debate. M/S “Atløy” from 1931 will of course continue to use the flag, and two other protected ships will use the flag in the future: D/S “Stavenes” from 1904 and M/S “Svanøy” from 1925. Those who still want to see the FSF flag in use at sea should therefore support these ships. The campaign on Facebook will in any case allow the surplus from the sale of T-shirts to go to the vessels.
