M/S “Stangfjord”
One of the local boats that will most likely not make it to Fjordsteam is M/S “Stangfjord”. The boat has been owned by Askvoll Municipality south of Florø since 1995, and is currently undergoing full restoration at the Hardanger Fartøyvernsenter. The work, which is expected to cost around 5 million is funded, is in full swing and expected to be completed in 2011.
The boat was built for Stongjorden Elektrokjemiske Fabrikker at Løvfallstrand in 1933, and designed by one of the engineers at the plant. It was used for passenger transport for the roadless village until the end of the 1950s, and later, among other things, as a surveillance boat during the herring fishery. In 1985, Karl Vie bought it, so that it returned to the village. In 1995, he had to sell, and Askvoll Municipality took over with support from Norsk Hydro.
